Social anxiety the lonely phobia, avoiding situations where you might come into contact with others can, of course, lead to loneliness and from that depression.


Loneliness can lead to depression


Social Anxiety or Social Phobia is a condition in which the sufferer fear social situations in which they feel that will be criticised or rejected, often worrying about past events, they feel like they are the only person in the world with these kinds of problems but In fact, there are hundreds of sufferers just like them.

Sufferers typically experience feelings of nervousness and shyness, with an intense feeling of insecurity, they are not just insecure about themselves but also in their relationships with others leading to the sufferers avoiding situations where they might come into contact with others, this can, of course, lead to loneliness and from that depression.

Blushing can be a symptom

They can also feel physical symptoms; these can include sweating, shivering or trembling heavy breathing and blushing, and can be very sensitive about criticism Social anxiety often starts in adolescence and for many can continue for many years well into adulthood.

This condition is a chronic problem and can lead to a reduced quality of life if not treated correctly but with the proper support from therapists, psychologists or support groups it can be controlled, social anxiety or social phobia can be linked with other psychological traits such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and if ignored can be very hard to overcome.

If it is allowed to persist into adolescence it can resurface in adulthood


It is quite a normal and necessary emotion in childhood to occur as part of the human development of social functioning but if it does not naturally fade, but persists, and is allowed to go unnoticed into adolescence it can resurface in adulthood, there are many degrees of social anxiety or social phobia in some it is just a matter of time before it passes, and yet can be very difficult for some.

It is not known just why some people continue with this problem it could just be related to shyness or some other emotional situation and the whole condition is still being researched with many theory’s coming to the fore

Stage fright in its self is OK



Public speaking anxiety, stage fright, timidness and embarrassment when confronted with the thought of facing a huge audience can all lead to social phobia the embarrassment in its self is normal it’s the thought or anticipation of it, that is a form of social phobia, depending on the intensity, we all have these feelings at some time or another.

A child can have a fear it will not” live up to” the expectancy of their parents, so it is not a good thing to push your child too much, it could lead to problems in later life, there is nothing wrong in wanting your child to achieve higher things, but care is needing in how you go about it.

Just being stressed is normal


Anxiety is a state of unpleasant feelings and uneasiness, a person suffering from this condition can have an unbearable feeling of apprehension.
Coupled with fear or worry this can lead the sufferer to a feeling of impending and unavoidable or maybe even an uncontrollable threatened state.
In a way it is normal to feel anxious when you are stressed, it’s when anxiety becomes excessive that you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, your heart may begin to beat in an irregular rhythm, you can feel over tired and even feel pain inside, and some but not all sufferers will also have a panic attack.

Heart attacks and panic attacks are hard to differentiate


A panic attack is a real thing not imaginary, sufferers will experience the feeling that he is about to die or pass out, heart attacks and panic attacks have a very similar confusing feelings and it needs a qualified person to differentiate between the two.
Test anxiety is often felt by students after taken exams, the fear that they might not pass can lead to a feeling of embarrassment from the teacher for “not making the grade” and this can continue as a fear for the same from friends or parents, student are also the highest group of people that take recreational drugs such as ecstasy and the like these can also make them feel anxious.

Test Anxiety


There is a debate on whether test anxiety and anxiety attacks are in the same category, but saying that, test anxiety is not just confined to students many workers in the industry have the same fears with regards to their career or profession, so, therefore, can have a similarly negative effect on the adult.
In young children, meeting strangers can give a feeling of anxiety and this “Stranger Anxiety” can continue to affect that person into adulthood, this fear in adulthood is termed “Social anxiety”

Post-traumatic stress disorder


It seems some of us are born with more anxious feeling than others and this has lead to suggest that it can be inherited through our genes, anxiety can be brought upon by a problem or circumstance, and as soon as that problem is resolved and goes away then so does the anxiety, however if the anxiety remains after the event and it can do for quite a time even years in extreme circumstances then this is called post-traumatic stress disorder.

Psychological therapy is another path to take.



A course of cognitive behavioural therapy can be very useful and indeed with the proper psychological help this can have an extremely beneficial and long lasting effect

Why do we cry? 
A look at the reasons and causes. we cry for all sorts of reasons.



The tear systemCrying is the result of an emotional state, it is the outcome of quite a complex set of activities made by our body, we produce tears when we feel ourselves in an emotional state of mind, and it is thought that we are the only members of the animal kingdom that produce tears when in an emotional state although this is disputed by some scientists.

The tear system. is made up of the Tear gland Lacrimal gland, Superior lacrimal punctum, Superior lacrimal canal lacrimation leads to tears, Tear sac Lacrimal sac, Inferior lacrimal punctum, Inferior lacrimal canal and the Nasolacrimal canal

Men, according to a study of over 300 people, cry once a month, although I cry every week when I talk to my bank manager.

And women cry around five times a month and sometimes more for no reason at all during and just before their menstrual period.

Is crying a weakness?


In most society’s it is quite acceptable for women and children to cry, but is looked upon as a weakness for men to cry, although many women look upon a man who cries as a favourable quality, and sees it as a sign of compassion, (I have a tear in my eye right now)

Tears can be produced without emotion, and these incredible are made of a different type of body liquid consisting of a totally different chemical composition, so you see emotions have more power than you think.

Non-verbal communication

The reason why we cry is quite a question, it could be, as it is in body language, a way of showing feelings of happiness or sadness, we also produce tears when in pain, and this can also be emotional or physical.

In the early days of medical science, it was thought tears were made to rid the brain of bad things but this soon abounded, but the fact remains that we all feel “Better” after crying.

This could be those hormones that are produced by the body when we are stressed begin to build up, and that by crying this lowers that level of stress hormones making us feel better.

Reducing aggressiveness


Another theory as to why we cry is that by crying our vision is blurred thus reducing aggressiveness and on a defensive mood, thus showing appeasement and the need for attachment, in other words, we are showing another we are not a threat and in fact would like to be friends.

As babies have a limited means of communication crying is very important to them.
a baby cry comes in three types




  • Basic, this is just a means of letting you know he is there, especially at three o’clock in the morning.
  • Anger well this is self-explanatory and can also mean he is hungry
  • Pain, this can mean hunger as well.

  • Most people can tell which kind of baby cry it is, but parents can tell more with their own child then in others.

    The link that is formed from birth gives a better understanding of the meanings of the different types of cry from their offspring

    So there you have it, crying is a very necessary action, so the next time you shed a

    Two conscious minds?

    We have two conscious minds


    Have you ever gone to sleep with a problem or question and in the morning woken with the answer? I know I have.
    It is my belief the we have two conscious minds, the one we use during our normal day to day routines, one that has the capacity to remember and to learn as much as we need too and to allow us to continue in the manner we live at that moment in time, but it is an expandable one, so that when we need to learn more or to take in more information we can.
    This conscious works all the time we are awake and only rests during our sleep time or when we turn it off, for example in a state of meditation.

    We call this memory retrieval


    And the other, the unconscious mind, is a much larger one, one that works in the background taking in all the information our eyes and ears see and hear, it also stores thoughts wishes and desires, this conscious has a much larger capacity, a little like a backup hard drive for holding all the little pieces of information that we might not need at that very moment, it has an enormous storage capacity, and this can use when and if we need it, this conscious or subconscious never stops it continues to store information even when we are asleep.

    The information stored in the subconscious

    The information stored in the subconscious is available to the conscious mind whenever it needs it, it can, however, be retrieved by you delving into it, we call this memory retrieval; however the subconscious can be used in another way.
    As it is a learning conscious as we think or ponder on a problem just before we sleep we can “activate” our subconscious so that it will continue to work on the problem whilst we sleep and invariable have the answer in the morning.
    If you practice this you will be able to increase your intelligence quotient while you sleep. When you dream the results of your dreams are just what your subconscious has made of, from the things you have thought of, or have experienced during the day.

    We only use a small amount of what is available


    Most people think of the subconscious as a psychoanalytic term but this is not so, in fact Freud had condemned the word as long ago as 1915, he argues that If someone talks of subconsciousness, I cannot tell whether he means the term topographically -- to indicate something lying in the mind beneath consciousness -- or qualitatively -- to indicate another consciousness, a subterranean one, as it were
    I do believe that because we only use a small amount of our intake of information, and that most of it is ignored and stored in our subconscious, it is possible with the right skills; we could with practice, be able to tap into this vast database and so increase our brain power.

    Aloe Vera Can It Help Treat or Prevent Irritable Bowel Syndrome




    Aloe Vera can help the body in so many ways, from a simple body moisturiser to a possible treatment for Irritable Bowel syndrome.

    Aloe Vera is used in an amazing array of products including soaps, bubble bath, hand soap, toilet tissue and shampoo.

    If you use a tissue impregnated with Aloe Vera the next time you contract a cold it could help to stop the nose soreness that is often associated with it, Aloe Vera has amazing properties if you have a plant at home you can cut its leaves and rub the juice on your hands as a moisturiser.     But I want to talk about taking it by mouth; Aloe Vera can help with heartburn liver disease and may also be effective for genital herpes but most importantly Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder characterised most commonly by cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. If you have any of these symptoms see your doctor.

    So far there is no actual proof, but drinking Aloe Vera has no side effect so if you do suffer from IBS it certainly looks as though it is worth trying, trials are still being carried out and we should get a paper on it very soon.

    It has no side effects


    Even without the proof I would say it is certainly worth trying aloe Vera as it seems to have few side effects it's not even fattening, however, if you have never tried it, go a little slow to start with as it is a laxative

    One in three people in the UK suffer from IBS and in the US it is one in five, for a bad sufferer it is recommended around 1 to 2 tablespoons and hour but for less severe sufferers 6 tablespoons a day should be enough, to help ward off any risk you can limit it to two tablespoons a day

    Give your inside a treat

    In the Caribbean, it is sold on the beach for sunburn because of its anti-inflammatory properties, by drinking it you do the same good to the inside your body.
    Aloe Vera has a natural healing and detoxifying power and works to help break down impacted food residues in the bowel.
    As with all alternative medicines or health food supplements is it best to consult with your doctor first especially if you are young, pregnant or lactating.

    Dermatitis and What Make Our Skin Itch


    There are many reasons why we itch, from using the wrong type of soap or perfume to not rinsing our washing before wearing.

    Make sure you buy non-irritant cosmetics


    There are many reasons why and what causes you to itch? It could be an internal reason like eczema or something your skin has come into contact with such a plant or even laundry soap these can all cause skin irritants and they can range from a mild soreness to skin reactions like blisters where the skin bubbles up with small pockets of fluid.

    Internal causes can be treated with drugs or even physiological help; eczema, for example, is usually hereditary and many times is triggered by stress, asthma or an allergy can also be a cause, even some foods can cause skin problems.

    Rubbing the skin can often cause it to itch, this can be rough clothes rubbing or even a cold wind blowing onto the skin, of course, we all know what the sun can do to the skin, the cream we put on our skin to protect us from the sun can in some cases also cause it to react, you just can't win can you?

    We come into contact with many things every day that can give us skin problems so it is sometimes very hard to determine what the cause of the rash is, perfumes you spray on yourself and even those used in fabric softeners can give a reaction.

    Most reasons for mild rashes or dermatitis as it is called can be sorted with a cream or lotion bought from your chemist but if the itch or rash worsens it is always best to consult a doctor.

    Over time the skin builds its own defence



    Children often have problems as their skin have little or no ‘built up’ defences but as they grow so does the skin's own defences, a lot of the diseases children contract such as measles and chickenpox can cause very painful irritations, however, the skin is an amazing organ it's our first defence and it can adapt to fight some of the attacks.

    You can help your skin in a very simple way by wearing protective clothing such as gloves, when your gardening or working with chemicals in the home, poison ivy and other similar plants can cause very bad dermatitis, as does household cleaning chemicals we use every day.

    Insect bites are another cause so just by helping out the skin with gloves or protective clothing makes sense, also after you have come into contact with any possible skin irritation, washing with soap and water may be all you need to do.
